Mindfulness retreat in Croyde, North Devon

About Croyde

Croyde is a small village on the Atlantic-facing coast of North Devon, sitting beneath Baggy Point within the North Devon National Landscape. It is best known as a surf village, with a wide beach, coastal footpaths and a strong outdoor culture.

The setting is markedly different from inland Devon. The scale of the coast, the sound of the sea and the quality of light on the water give the place a particular openness. Coastal paths run in every direction from the village, and the beach is on the doorstep.

For people who find that being outdoors shifts something quickly, Croyde tends to do that work from the moment you arrive.

Getting to Croyde

Croyde is within easy reach of Barnstaple and Braunton. Barnstaple is the nearest railway station, on the Tarka Line from Exeter, with local buses and taxis covering the final stretch to the village.

Most people drive, arriving via the A361 North Devon Link Road. Village parking is limited in high summer. Full directions and parking guidance are shared once you book.

What a mindfulness day in Croyde looks like

Our Croyde days make the most of the coast. They follow the same practical approach as all our work, with short guided practices, reflection and tools you can take home, but more of the day happens outside: walking practice on the coastal paths, listening to the sea, and noticing how open space changes the way you feel.

Groups are kept small, the pace is unhurried, and nothing is compulsory. Cold water is always optional and never expected. Full details of the day are on our Signature Day page.

Why the coast helps

Many people find sitting still for long periods difficult, and that is not a failing. For them, mindfulness often clicks more easily on the move. The rhythm of walking, the sound of waves and the width of the horizon give the mind something steady to rest on, which is why Croyde suits people who have struggled with more traditional, seated practice.

If you would like a taste beforehand, try our free walking practice or the practice on using natural sounds.

Making a day of it in Croyde

The walk around Baggy Point, cared for by the National Trust, is one of the finest short coastal walks in North Devon, with wide views across the bay. Croyde’s beach sits right below the village, the South West Coast Path runs through, and the dunes of Braunton Burrows and the long stretch of Saunton Sands are just along the coast.

There is plenty of holiday accommodation in and around the village, from cottages to campsites. It gets busy in the summer holidays, so it is worth booking early if you plan to stay.

Questions about our Croyde retreat days

Do I have to go in the sea?

No. Cold water is always optional and never expected. Plenty of people enjoy the day without going anywhere near it.

How much walking is involved?

Walking is gentle and unhurried. If you have mobility or access needs, tell us when you get in touch and we will adapt the day, or talk with you about whether our Totnes days might suit you better.

What should I bring?

Layers, waterproofs and shoes you can walk in, whatever the forecast says. Everything else is provided.

Can I get there without a car?

Yes, with a little planning. Take the Tarka Line from Exeter to Barnstaple, then a local bus or taxi to the village. If you are driving, allow extra time for parking in high summer.
