OUR SIGNATURE EXPERIENCE
A Mindfulness Day Retreat in Devon
Practical mindfulness for modern life. A day to pause. A day to reset. A way to take calm home with you.
Or email us at contact@mindfulnessdevon.com
Mindfulness isn’t about escaping everyday life.
It’s about learning how to meet everyday life differently.
Our Signature Day is a mindfulness day retreat in Devon built around that idea. Unlike many mindfulness retreats, this isn’t about stepping away from real life for a day and then returning to exactly where you started. It’s about learning practical ways to navigate the life you already have.
The day combines evidence-based mindfulness with practical exercises, reflection, guided meditation and creative approaches, helping you understand your own patterns and discover what genuinely works for you. You’ll leave with more than a feeling of calm — you’ll leave with practical tools you can use at home, at work and whenever life feels a little too much.
THE FRAMEWORK
The CALM Framework™
Throughout the day, we explore our simple CALM framework:
C
Catch
Notice what’s happening — your thoughts, feelings, physical responses and patterns.
A
Accept
Meet what’s happening with greater kindness and less resistance.
L
Let Go
Learn simple ways to release tension, create space and return to the present.
M
Move Forward
Turn what you’ve learned into practical habits that fit your real life.
How the day runs
Ten in the morning until four in the afternoon, with a proper lunch hour and breaks either side. The pace is unhurried by design — there is time to think, and nothing you have to keep up with.
Morning — noticing and meeting what is there
We open gently, with time to arrive before anything is asked of you, and a short breathing practice. The morning then works through the first two stages of the framework. Catch is about recognising stress before it takes over — where it sits in your body, and the thoughts that come with it. Accept is quieter, and asks what you are carrying that no longer serves you.
These are spaced across the morning rather than run back to back, with guided practices, journalling and creative reflection between them, and a short break for coffee.
Lunch
A full hour, with lunch provided. Vegetarian and vegan options are always available, and we ask about allergies and dietary requirements when you book. There is no programme over lunch — sit outside if the weather allows, stretch your legs, or simply be quiet.
Afternoon — tools and what happens next
The afternoon turns practical. Let Go covers the tools themselves: grounding, working with the breath, where you put your attention, handling difficult thoughts, and the difference between responding and reacting. Move Forward is about what you actually take home — building your Personal CALM Plan, and choosing one small habit rather than twenty good intentions.
Again spaced with practices and reflection, and a break mid-afternoon. We close by looking at what you want to carry forward.

Who the day is for
Our mindfulness day retreats in Devon suit people who are new to mindfulness and want a grounded, jargon-free way in. They also suit people who have tried an app or a podcast and found it didn’t quite stick, and people going through a demanding stretch at work or at home who want practical tools rather than theory.
You don’t need any previous experience. You don’t need to be flexible, spiritual, or particularly good at sitting still. You just need to be willing to try a few things and notice what fits.
Where the day takes place
Our Totnes days are held at The Byre, Berry Pomeroy — a converted barn a couple of miles outside the town, with free parking on site. It is a calm, private space with room to spread out, and somewhere to step outside when the weather allows. Full directions and parking guidance come with your welcome pack.
We run our Devon retreat days at two venues, each with a distinct character.
Totnes, South Devon
Our Totnes days are held at The Byre, a converted barn in Berry Pomeroy, a couple of miles outside the town. Totnes itself sits on the River Dart in the South Hams, with a long-standing creative and wellbeing culture and countryside walks all around.
Croyde, North Devon
Beneath Baggy Point on the Atlantic coast, within the North Devon National Landscape — where open air, cold water and the rhythm of the tide become part of the practice rather than a backdrop to it.
Read more about our Devon locations, or get in touch to ask which venue would suit you best.
What you’ll take away
This isn’t mindfulness that stays in the retreat room. You’ll leave with your own practical toolkit, including:
Your Calm Companion Workbook
A space to capture what you’ve learned and the practices that work best for you.
Your Personal Calm Plan
A simple, personalised approach to bringing mindfulness into everyday life.
Guided Practices
Resources you can return to whenever you need them.
Practical Reset Techniques
Short practices designed for real moments — when you’re stressed, overwhelmed, distracted or simply need to pause.
Your 30-Day Calm Challenge
A gentle way to turn a day of learning into an everyday habit.
Who you’ll be learning with
Every Signature Day is led by Sophia Roddan and Toni Wood, both accredited Mindfulness Now teachers. The Mindfulness Now programme is approved by the British Psychological Society and draws on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy.
Sophia is also a trained Drawing and Talking practitioner and Toni is a qualified Positive Psychology practitioner. You can read more about our training and accreditation.
Before you come
You need no previous experience, and you do not need to be flexible, calm, spiritual or good at sitting still. Bring layers and shoes you can walk in. Everything else is provided.
Once you book we send full directions, parking guidance and a short pre-attendance form. If you have access requirements, sensory needs or anything you would like us to know in advance, that is what the form is for — we would much rather adapt beforehand than have you manage on the day.
Nothing on the day is compulsory. You can move, fidget, step outside, sit out a practice or write nothing at all. A blank page is a valid answer, and we mean that.
Booking and cancellation
Places are £199, or £149 for the first four booked on each date, and are paid in full at booking. If you need to cancel, we will refund you in full up to 21 days before the day, and half the fee between 7 and 21 days before. Inside 7 days we cannot offer a refund, because the place has been held and the day is planned around the group.
You can transfer your place to someone else, or to another date, at any point up to the day itself — just let us know.
