Who this suits
Anyone who has been told to “just focus on the breath” and found it didn’t work.
When to use it
Good early in a practice, or when you want to find what actually settles you.
A note on the approach
Breath is treated as one option among several rather than the default anchor. Sounds, body sensation and external objects are offered alongside it, and moving between them is framed as skill rather than distraction.
During this practice, we'll playfully explore a few different anchors — simple things you can pay attention to. This could be, for instance, the breath, sounds, body sensations, or an external object of some kind. There is no right or wrong anchor. You can choose whichever feels safe, steady, or soothing for you. You could stay with one anchor that you feel is right for you, or move between them. You are in charge of your experience. Your eyes can stay open or closed — whatever is most comfortable.
